Short Directions for Using PearlEx and Pearlescent Powders

Cards and Techniques by Freyja - based on a Class given at Blade Rubber

Rennaisance

Card made with rubber stamps

Stamp - NonSequitur 'Italia' plate
Stamp image with Brilliance or Stazon onto acetate, dry and apply double sided sticky tape to stamped side.
Apply gold, silver and copper PearlEx to sticky taped acetate. Mount onto white, black and bronze layers then a larger piece of decorated vellum with trimmed corners.
Prepare a white main card with a half bronze layer added with a strip of gold mesh.
Layer the vellum and add peel off dragonfly and corners.


Forum

Stamp from Toybox (Toybox has now ceased trading)
Stamp sticky backed acetate with image and Stazon ink, using a piece of acetate larger than the image.
Apply gold, bronze and blue PearlEx to the back, lightly colouring clothing if preferred. Cut out the image (see picture) and mount onto black then over the remainder of the background.
Corner cut the acetate and mount onto a black mail card using the spare cut corner pieces. Add a button and gold painted dried leaf.


Two Babies

Stamp - Magenta 17019
Stamp image as before and colour with mostly silver Pearl Ex. Cut closely and layer onto a silver, decorative edge punched panel, decorative paper and a white main card.
Add embellishment to taste.

Three Graces

Stamp - Judikins 2285H
Stamp and black emboss the image onto plain acetate and lightly paint the back with PearlEx and 'Klear' mixture to accent the design.
Layer onto a punched gold panel and dark green clear embossed 'spotted' layer and a cream main card.
Edge the green layer with with red peel-off.


Lavender Floral

Stamp - Magenta 19034M
Stamp onto plain acetate and colour with a mixture of glass paint and PearlEx.
Leave the background plain and mount onto blue and white layers.
Silver emboss the front off a lavender main card.
Add thin silver thread to the fold edge.


Pearly Pear

Card made with rubber stamps

Any pear/fruit stamp is effective for this card.
Stamp onto acetate and colour with glass paint and PearlEx mixture.
Make the colour strong adding a second coat when the first is dry if necessary.
Cut around the pear and layer onto black and white card.
Add a bow or other embellishment.


Pink Floral

Stamp – Blade Rubber BR043K
Stamp the image on sticky backed acetate and colour flowers with varying shades of PearlEx smudging edges for a soft look.
Mount onto gold, navy and pink cards adding delicate peel off corners of choice.


Floral Ornament

Stamps - Magenta 14324.O and Blade Rubber Dragon BR003P
Stamp ornament and apply PearlEx onto sticky back acetate.
Stamp and gold emboss dragon, Carefully cut out adding tiny peel-off pieces for accent.
Layer medallion, glue dragon to corner and add chosen text to right hand edge.


Floral Ornament

Stamp - Magenta 14324.O
Alter appearance to the previous Floral Card with different cutting and layering.
The silver layer is paper embossed with a Fiskars texture plate and special hand tool.
Attach to a pearlescent vellum card.


Ophelia

Magenta Butterfly 23151T
Stamp and copper emboss Ophelia
Triple gold emboss two scraps of card stamping leaf into the hot enamel. Cut out and enhance with PearlEx brush over the leaves.
Sponge a black panel with Brilliance gold and copper ink and brush over copper PearEx.
Stamp the leaf with Brilliance ice blue and the butterfly with black.
Assemble as shown with gold mesh onto a bronze card adding two punched foil butterflies


Wonderland

Stamp - Non Sequitur plate 60C
Apply three Colourbox pigment 'cat's eye pads directly onto dark card to colour and brush over two or three PearlEx colours.
Over stamp with a tiny flower and emboss with Stewart Gill interference powders.
Stamp Alice once on the acetate and again on a large gold panel with black permanent ink.
Stamp and gold emboss sun and clock as shown.
Attach the acetate and gold panel onto a black main card with brads and embellish.


Harlequin

Blade Rubber Paisley BR042K
Stamp harlequin on sticky acetate and colour with PearEx.
Layer onto chequered paper then black paper and tie thread around.
Randomly sponge a panel with toning chalk inks and over stamp and gold emboss with the Paisley.
Lightly sponge a second panel with chalk inks and stamp with any 'spidery' image.
Assemble as illustrated onto a black card.


Girl With Plaits

English Stamp Company Leaf 2102
Stampington Dove R3029
Mix three colours of PearEx with PVA glue and dab thickly onto a black panel.
Stamp the leaf into the wet glue. When dry stamp half of the girl image onto acetate.
Using a pink and a larger torn green hand made paper panels attach the acetate panel with brads onto a main card.
Stamp and emboss the bird on acetate and fix with invisible tape.


Jesters

Stamp - Magenta 02.209N
Firmly apply Versamark over a black card, covering well.
Brush over several colours of PearEx in a diagonal pattern.
Spray with fixative when dry, keep a small piece for a tag.
Stamp and emboss the Jesters, add tinly bells to the caps.
This card can be finished in many ways with a variety of layers and embellishments of your choice.


Acanthus Tile

Stamp - Magenta 26050
Stamp and black emboss onto beige card.
Colour with a PearlEx and gum Arabic mix using green an copper.
Alternate the colours on the leaves for a shaded 'shot silk' effect.
Cut three sides of the inner square and insert a picyure, photo or transparency as used here.
Cut the panel edging with gold Krylon pen.
Mount onto a beige panel and tan card.
