Rubber Stamping Classes

Learn a new technique or be inspired by our popular classes with Susie Jefferson and Freyja.
The classes are small, only seven per class, so book early.
Most of the classes start in the morning at 11.00
The downstairs shop will usually be closed till 2pm.

Newcomers and experienced stampers are welcome to all our classes.

June 27th - Tim Holtz
Class Teacher - Susie Jefferson

Love the Tim Holtz style, but unsure what to do?

We'll be making everything distressed & Shabby Chic: grunge, torn, aged, painted, splattered, dyed & sprayed. This mixed-media class uses Grunge Board, masking, Tim Holtz stamps, Distress inks, Distress embossing powders, Adirondak Colour Wash sprays & Alcohol inks. So whether your style is hard core Grunge, or a softer vintage look, we will be trying out all kinds of special effects for that special "Tim" look!

July 11th - Beginners

Whether a total beginner, or someone totally confused about all the new products out there, this class is for you - fun, stress free, with everything you need to know about:

How to stamp correctly for a perfect image every time
Basic embossing using a heat tool
Basic mounting & layering effects.
How to make a card look HAND made, not home made.
Masking & reverse masking
Stamp positioning (how to put WHAT you want WHERE you want)
DTP (direct-to-paper) to apply colour - experiment with the Colourbox Stylus Tool system and create multi-patterned backgrounds reminiscent of Moorish tiles.
Fun shapes: gatefold & threefold cards
Embellishments: brads & eyelets, ribbons.

You will also take home a comprehensive hand-out on inks: how to choose the right ink for the job (there are so many to choose from, so which does what?) plus care, cleaning & storage for unmounted and wood-mounted stamps. and basic layout ideas for foolproof cards.

July 18th - Using UTEE to make beads
Class Teacher - Susie Jefferson

Take your art one step further with this special UTEE class.

Using the Hot Pot, we are going to make:

The "Leandra" bead - every one unique, encasing tiny beads, sequins or spirals in clear resin to make drops and danglies to decorate earrings, bracelets etc
UTEE decals to decorate book covers, ATCs and cards
Faux dichroic glass decals, wire-wrapped and transformed into pieces of wearable art
Faux solder for glass slides, encasing transparent art and collage for earrings, necklaces or embellishments for books or cards
This class will enable you to create Objects of Desire with a totally unique look, which is simple to achieve once you know the techniques!

As always, you will take home a set of fully illustrated notes.

October 17th - Explosion Box
Class Teacher - Susie Jefferson

These boxes can be decorated with photographs, rubber stamping, paints or your favourite papers - the perfect keepsake to show off your artistic skills.

Create perfect backgrounds with the DTP (direct-to-paper) technique using pigment inks and rubber stamps
Add glimmer and shine with Radiant Mists
Emboss the perfect accent
Add detail and excitement with matting & layering
Add detail with photographs or photoartstamps, German Scrap etc

Take off the lid... the sides of the box open outwards like petals, exposing layer upon layer to find... what? What would you hide inside your box? A little gift: chocolates? perfume? earrings? cufflinks or a tie?
This box is easier to make than you would think, even if you have never made one before!

Any photos you want to use - scans & photocopies are fine (I'll be bringing some too)

October 31st - Special Effects Cards: Retiform, Springer, Gatefold Pop-Out

Three different cards, each in a completely different style, adaptable for any occasion including Christmas of course - and also perfect for MEN'S CARDS! (What a nightmare that usually is...)

RETIFORM

This uses a masking technique, creating shade on shade of colour. Perfect for men's cards, and for really unusual Christmas cards no-one will have seen before!

SPRINGER

Also known as the Jump Up card, this is great fun. Make them cute for kids, or elegant with lacy edgings for someone older. This one will definitely be noticed!

GATEFOLD POP-OUT

A gatefold card which opens to display TWO pop-out sections. Make these for someone very special! This one would also be wonderful for a wedding card.

November 28th - Tunnel Cards
Class Teacher - Susie Jefferson

Take your card-making skills to the max and create miniature worlds of wonder and enchantment with these Tunnel cards.
You will create two, in totally different styles using mixed media skills: watercolour, rubber stamps & collage.

Variation 1

This adorable card has depth, mystery - and folds up small enough to tuck in a pocket or hold in the palm of your hand.
Using heavy watercolour paper, this card is constructed from a single sheet and opens out into a sturdy stand-alone book with 3 different torn apertures. Using a unique watercolour technique for soft and diffused images, this card will adapt to any artist's style, whether collage-y or cute. We will be incorporating charms, eyelets, glitter and a ribbon tie.

Variation 2

This Diorama card was originally made popular by Victorian artists, and is like gazing into a miniature theatre. Create the scenery, create the characters, add a little magic with stamps, embossing, watercolours and glitter and let the magic happen.
You'll love these cards so much you'll want to make more straight away, to keep for yourself! Of course, there will be a full set of illustrated notes for you to take home.

December 5th - Wrapping up Christmas - box-making & bag making & Christmas decorations using Crafters Companion boards
Class Teacher - Susie Jefferson

Perfect packaging makes the present - and presentation is everything, whether a present or your home! It all starts here...
Using the Crafters Companion boards, we will make boxes and gift bags.

We'll also be printing our own wrapping papers.
Plus I'll be making suggestions for decorations for the home and the tree, and ideas for table settings etc. Fast and furious, this class will be a lot of fun.

Wear old clothes just in case, it may get messy!

Pencil & rubber
As always, there'll be a full set of notes to take home.

Saturday Classes last two hours and start at 11 am.
The two hour class cost £12.
Please pay in advance to confirm your booking.
